Sign Me Up: Online Petitions
I’m not a huge fan of the news because of all the bad news it seems to bring, but as of lately I’ve been reading up on random current events here and there. In doing so, I’ve realized that many unresolved issues can actually be resolved through petitions. These are a couple of petition-based sites that I’ve become a part of recently:
| Change.org – Visit | SignOn.org – Visit |

Edit: I didn’t realize how important petitions actually can be until I signed a few myself and saw some changes actually happen! For example, there was a woman who started a petition revolving around a movie called “Bully” that was rated R. The movie is an educational film about the harshness of high school and middle school bullying, but the rating was too high to show in schools! So she started this petition on Change.org to raise awareness about it. Now, she has succeeded in her goal and the rating has been changed to PG-13 so that the movie could be shown in schools!
Even if you just browse these sites and see what’s there, you might find an issue or cause worth backing up and fighting for. And if the petition succeeds, you get this awesome feeling knowing that you’ve made a difference.
And the greatest thing about these sites is that they make it easy for you to start petitions on your own if you need to. If there’s an issue you have with an organization or company, or something you just feel very strongly about, plead your case and prove to yourself and others that their voices and input really do matter and can make a difference in the world.
